The 5000GT is really not a "production" car as only 34 examples were built by 8 different "carrozzerias" and there were many variations between each car. Priced at twice the cost of a 3500GT the 5000GT was targeted at a very exclusive clientele that included the Shah of Persia, Briggs Cunningham and Aga Khan.
Power came from a 5 liter V8 derived from the 450S race car. The interior and trim were very plush and the attention to details superb.
If you are looking at purchasing a 5000GT, make sure to get expert help in selecting the proper car. Parts and restoration costs on a 5000GT are not for those of us that want to enjoy their Maserati within a realistic budget.
