1973 Maserati Indy 4900

VIN: AM116/49*2016*

This is a nicely restored Maserati Indy with the very desirable 4.9 liter engine and ZF 5-speed gearbox. The Indy was developed as a companion to the Maserati Ghibli using many of the same mechanical components. The objective was to providing similar performance as the Ghibli while being capable to comfortably transporting 4 people.

Indys came with 4.2, 4.7 and 4.9 liter engines. This is one of the last Indys made (manufactured Sept 1973) and has the most desirable options, plus it was a European delivered car without any of the USA add ons.

In the early 1970's Citroen invested heavily into Maserati and the Indy was the first car to benefit from this influx in cash towards the end of the Indy production. Several significant upgrades were made:

  • The interior dash was redesigned
  • Citroen brakes were used (the steering, clutch and accessories are not part of the hydraulic system)
  • An upgraded ZF 5-speed gearbox (later used on the Khamsin)
  • 15 inch wheel (most Indy have 14 inch wheels)
  • 4.9 liter engine exclusively

As can be seen in the photos this car had an extensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration. The paint quality is very good as is the interior. AC blows cold. The engine compartment is extremely clean and proper. Engine number matches the chassis. Included are recent receipts over the last 5 years for close to $20,000. This included rebuilding the brake calipers, new brake discs, new shocks, new fuel pumps, rebuilding of brake accumulators, plus more. Mechanically this Indy is virtually identical to the Ghibli SS at a fraction of the price. Overall one of the nicest Indy you will find.
