This is a matching numbers 1969 Jaguar e-type series 2 roadster which I recently purchased from a very good friend and fellow member with the local Atlanta Jaguar Club. He purchased the car 20 years ago from an individual also from Georgia. Previously the car had been in Arizona. The car shows 58K miles, believed to be original. It is British Racing Green with black interior, a great color combination for a XKE.
Body: The body on an e-type is by far the most important item and this is where this car shines. Body is very solid and straight. There is no rust or signs of the car having been in a accident. Floors are all original and in great condition. The lacquer paint is at least 20 years old and there are some heat bubbles around the left side louvers. Also there is some paint cracking on the left fender and a plug on the trunk lid where a CB antenna use to be installed (see photos). Overall the paint looks good from 10 feet. Best of all, this paint hides nothing. Car has been stored indoors in a climate controlled environment.
Interior: The interior is very usable as is but some of it was redone not using the correct factory materials. The seats were redone in vinyl. There are no rips or tears. If you are not a sticker for originality there is no need to replace the seats. Soft top is in very good condition with a clear back plastic.
Chrome and wires wheels: Chrome on the car is very good, including the wire wheels. The car is fitted with Avon tires of the proper size of 185 x 15.
Mechanicals: This engine runs very sweet! Very good oil pressure and no smoke. The valve train is very quite. A new clutch at a cost of $3K was recently installed. Gearbox shifts very good with excellent synchros. Brakes were converted to use silicon brake fluid. It was upgraded to electronic ignition for greater reliability. Engine compartment is clean and components are stock. As I previously mentioned, the engine number matches the factory data plate. All instrument gauges are in proper working order. I just drove the car about 20 miles on a very hot (90 F) Atlanta afternoon The engine stayed cool throughout the drive and it idled and ran perfectly.
Car comes with owners manual, jack in bag, knock off hammer, knock off tool, lubrication chart, wiring diagram, boot cover (for when the top is down), original ID card, tonneau cover, and rare original passenger foot rest.
This is a very honest car perfect for the first time Jaguar XKE buyer. It may be left “as is” and simply enjoyed, or can be driven while it is being made nicer.
