Khamsin: AM120US1010
Odometer: 8,144 miles
Available is a very nice and rare Maserati Khamsin in very good condition. I purchased this Khamsin, along with a Maserati Bora, from a gentleman that owned both cars for 20 years. I just sold the Bora and now its time for the Khamsin to find a new home.
The Khamsin was the replacement of the Ghibli and has the more powerful 4.9 liter dry sump version of the Maserati V8 engine. Only 421 Khamsins were built during the entire time it was produced. The Khamsin was the last handbuilt front engine Maserati car.
This car has automatic transmission, air conditioner and power steering. The odometer only shows approximately 8K miles. Although I do not believe the mileage is accurate, there are many indications on the car itself that would lead you to conclude that the actual mileage is low. For example, the spark plug wires are original, the interior is also original, the tires are Michellin XWX. I do know the previous owner did not put many miles as I found evidence that the odometer was 5766 miles in 1989 .... that is less than 3,000 miles over the last 18 years. Luckily he did start and drive his cars on short trips, and provided them with maintenance. Therefore I did find the problems normally associated with cars that have sat for many years.
If you are not familiar with a Khamsin, please read this page
The car was painted 20 years ago to very high standards using Sikkens paint. The paint sill looks very good with just a few minor blemishes. There is no rust that I have found anywhere on the car. Doors, floors and rocker panels are all very solid. Body lines are quite nice and straight. The car shows itself extremely well
Mechanically the engine is smooth and very strong. It was just tuned, idles well and blows no smoke. The water pump was just replaced. The hydraulic system, which needs to be serviced every 10 years, was just done. This includes rebuilding the two brake accumulators and replacing the main sphere. All gauges, including the clock are working. The AC will probably need a freon charge. Battery is new.
Interior is all original and very nice for its age. The interior is ALL leather, no vinyl was used. There are no rips and cracks on the leather. Headliner is in great condition.
Includes the space saver spare tire (which fits under the engine!), wheel adapter for the spare tire, tool to remove the wheel center, and a copy of the Use and Maintenance manual, Overall this is a very good example of a car that looks MUCH better in person than on photos. The Khamsin was Maserati's top of the line car in its time and sold for about $35K in 1975 dollars.
